Orchid Show at Bonnet House

"Eileen's Folly" Orchids
This show was different from the AOS (American Orchid Society) shows I have seen in the past.
This consisted of a number of orchid vendors who set up booths and tents on the
grounds of the Bonnet House, and showed and sold thousands of different colors and
shapes and sizes of orchids.

"Tremors of the Heart" Orchids
Some people came to the show with wagons they pulled to take home a number
of orchids and other materials.

"Passionate Embrace" Orchids
The show was outdoors, under the trees close to the mangroves.  The day was
very pleasant, and enjoying the thousands of orchids was particularly nice.

"Flickering Firelight" Orchids
The Bonnet House was a winter home erected by a Chicago businessman in 1920.
It is right across the street from the Fort Lauderdale Beach.  His widow continued
to use the house during the winters until her death in 1995.

"A Night in the Tropics" Orchids
The Bonnet House can be visited, and it has extensive grounds and gardens.

"Dainty Miss" Orchids
The Bonnet House also sponsors many art and musical events during the year.
There are evening concerts with cheese and wine served.

"Flutterbug" Orchids
The prices of individual plants ranged from $12 to $280 on the ones I looked at.

"Merry Widow" Orchids

"April Morning"  Mokars Vanda Orchids
Large plastic buckets held dozens of these tall stalks in many colors.
Mokara Orchids are man-made orchids; they cannot be found in nature.
They are the result of combining three natural orchid varieties.

"August Afternoon"  Orchids

"Mysterious Lady" Orchids

"Dainty Dolly" Orchids

"Blue Dazzler"  Orchids

"Rapscallions"  Brassia / Spider Orchids

"Personal Memories" Orchids

"Dancing at Midnight"  Orchids

"Fun and Games" Orchids

"Freckle Face" Orfchids

"Queen's Mantle" Dendrobium Orchids
They start by sending tall stems upwards from the plant.  As more and more blossoms
open, the weight brings them down, and they end up like this.

"Yellow Cascade" Dendrobium Orchids

"A Tinge of Copper"

"Princess Alexander" Cattleya Orchid
